Introduction

The Montegrappa is a pen company founded in 1912 in Bassano, Italy. They are a luxury brand that focuses mainly on highly themed, limited-edition pens. The story and thought put into their pens is often significant, and this is along those lines.

The Mule is inspired by the American drink Moscow Mule, which has made a recent resurgence from its popularity in the 1940s and 50s. The Moscow Mule is traditionally served in a copper mug. Montegrappa had two mixologist brothers create a drink especially for them, the Montegrappa Mule. Edward and Leone Miotti created several varieties of the drink and had people vote on it in their Bassano-based bar.

The Montegrappa Mule drink is a variation of the Moscow Mule, with the main spirit of vodka replaced by grappa, a popular Italian drink in the brandy family. What really brings it all full-circle is that grappa is traditionally distilled using copper equipment, so it all comes together very nicely. Its evident a lot of thought was put into this theme. Theyre even including a matching copper mug with the pen for the initial launch, while supplies last.
