Vanitas, rooted in the Latin term ‘vanity,’ employs symbolism to depict life’s fleeting nature, the emptiness of pleasure, and the certainty of death. This art genre showcased still life depictions of transient elements and emerged in the 16th century, persisting into the 17th century. Vanitas art embodies allegorical concepts, symbolizing loftier ideals.

We’ve incorporated symbolic elements into the design of our tip box, drawing inspiration from this art movement. Roses symbolize beauty, youth, and pleasure, a skull on the opposite side signifies life’s fragility and the unavoidable reality of mortality. The hourglass illustrates the fleeting nature and constraints of time, while the reflecting sphere embodies worldly power. These symbols culminate with the phrase “Memento Mori,” reminding us of our mortality.

Inside, you’ll find a velvet fabric-lined floor, while its exterior boasts a varnish coating, safeguarding against corrosion and lending it an antique, weathered appearance. The stability of the box is reinforced with silicone soles on its lower legs.
