The Pleasure of Writing is proud to present an exclusive, limited edition fountain pen from Montegrappa rendered from the last available stock of “zebra” celluloid – the Ortocera.
Excavated from the living rock of mountainsides that once comprised vast, primordial seabeds, the fossils of the ancient cephalopod orthoceras are the result of a dazzling confluence between time and circumstance. Buried in the sediment beneath boundless oceans, these mass aggregations of orthoceras shells transformed over the eons into the breathtaking limestone-and-quartz specimens seen today.

Like its namesake, The Pleasure of Writing’s limited edition Ortocera is the result of time and circumstance. While touring Montegrappa headquarters in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, The Pleasure of Writing had the opportunity to view the stores of raw pencrafting materials; rods of unturned Montegrappite and unfinished metals. When a cache of rare, untouched a strisce celluloid was discovered, the Ortocera was born.
Featuring an 18k gold nib and gold vermeil trim, the Ortocera is meticulously crafted from the very last available supply of this lavishly patterned, banded celluloid and modeled after the classic 1920s Venetia silhouette, echoing the delicate shape of the orthoceras fossil, creating a luxuriant writing instrument of deeply satisfying dimension.
The Ortocera is a limited edition fountain pen, of which only fifty have been produced, numbered 1-50. These represent the first edition of the Ortocera. The remaining celluloid stock remains reserved for the sole production of this pen, and represents a potential second run of up to an additional 50 pens.
